Tea?
The tea tax had become the focus of political protest, spurring the colonists toward revolution. Patriots supported the Non-Importation Agreement, forbidding the use of taxed imported goods. You may want to read the text of the Non-Importation Agreement.
Or Liberty?
One week earlier, Patrick Henry made his fiery "Liberty or Death" speech, pushing Virginians toward breech with Great Britain. The Lewis and Washington families would be forever changed by their choice of liberty. The Lewises built this house in happy times but lived here under clouds of war.
