Workmen started installing new handrails on the carriage entrance steps of Kenmore the week of March 7, 2005. Progress was interrupted on Tuesday, March 8 by a late season snow storm but resumed on Wednesday. The handrails were installed by Thursday afternoon. The handrails were designed so they can be easily removed if necessary and don't touch the sandstone steps or the house at all.
Although there is no evidence that the steps had handrails in 1775, the new rails will be a great aid to visitors and staff.
