Back of postcard reads: Kenmore, where Colonel Fielding Lewis lived with his bride, Betty Washington Lewis, who was George Washington's sister, is one of the best known of all Virginia colonial homes. It was built in 1852 by Colonel Lewis, and was the mansion house of an estate of almost 800 acres, purchased by Colonel Lewis from Richard Wyatt Royston.
Note: Construction of Kenmore was actually completed in 1775. Fielding Lewis's property in Fredericksburg was 1,270 acres in size. The postcard does not take into account the 409 acres purchased by Fielding's father (which Fielding inherited upon his father's death) that was adjacent to the 871 Fielding purchased from Royston.
