Pocket Watch
London, early 19th century
Rebuilt with American works around 1907, this lady's watch descended in the Gordon family, owners of Kenmore from 1819 to 1860. Maker's marks found inside the shell ornamented watch case indicate that it was made in London, England during the early nineteenth century by Thomas and John Hilsby. According to family tradition the watch likely belonged either to Mary Nicholas Gordon (1800-1879) or her mother, Susan Knox Gordon (1775-1869).
The watch is currently on display in the Bissell Gallery at Kenmore.
