Cherry and yellow pine
Eastern Virginia
c. 1740-1750
Gift of Mrs. Frances B. Crowninshield, 1935
This table was found in Stafford County, Virginia. Similar to other early Virginia tables, it has legs that are square at the top, with slightly rounded corners that gradually taper into round legs and pad feet.
Like its counterparts, the table has brackets cut out from the single board apron and triangular brackets applied on the inner side rails. Also, the top of the gateleg has a cyma curve, or "lamb's tongue" groove that recedes into the inner side rail when the table is closed.
