Black walnut and yellow pine
Southeastern Virginia,
possibly Petersburg
c. 1775-1795
Gift of Mrs. W.L. Lyons Brown, 1984
This desk includes stacked footblocks and full bottom dustboards — construction features that were labor intensive and often used by Virginia's urban cabinetmakers, especially those who worked in Williamsburg. The top of the lower desk section has a finished surface, suggesting that the upper bookcase, while original, was probably constructed at a later date.

Drawer front labeled Bonds and Accounts
